Introduction
Alan Garner's book Weirdstone of Brisingamen and its sequel The Moon of Gomrath have been favourites of mine since junior school when a teacher read the passage to my class where Colin and Susan encounter the Svarts. I was so enthralled, I read the book and have read it many times since, both during childhood and in adult life.
I'd always wanted to visit the area that Alan Garner had painted so vividly in his books and longed for the kind of adventure that enveloped Colin and Susan. In September 2003, my boyfriend and I finally made the trip, staying at the Alderley Edge Hotel (great grub). Here are some of the photos we got on our exploration around the Edge. We need to go back again and see if we can find the Mara!
