Accessible websites

Stating that a website is 'accessible' is all very well, but what exactly does that mean? Accessible to who? Well, the question really refers not only to who, but also 'what?'.

Website accessibility can relate to two areas. Most commonly, accessibility is associated with visitors experiencing visual impairment or limited motor function (learn more about what accessibility means to users with disabilities and site owners alike).

However, website accessibility can refer to the number of devices that can download and render a web page (find out more about the implications of making your site available to multiple devices).

The two aspects need not be considered in isolation. Basic techniques can be adopted when structuring and building the site that can accommodate both visitors, able-bodied and less able-bodied alike, and non-personal computer devices.
